Paris-based Wandercraft, renowned for its medical exoskeletons showcased at the 2024 Olympics, has pivoted to humanoid robotics. The company's new creation, Calvin 40, was built in just 40 days using repurposed exoskeleton technology. Unlike typical humanoid robots, Calvin 40 omits humanlike features such as a head and hands, focusing instead on hazardous industrial tasks.

CEO Matthieu Masselin emphasized the natural transition, noting parallels with Tesla and Figure AI's robotics efforts. The robot is already undergoing factory testing, leveraging a decade of exosuit R&D for rapid deployment. Wandercraft's streamlined approach highlights a pragmatic shift toward functional automation over anthropomorphic design.
